To celebrate International Human Rights Day on Wednesday December 10th, Peace and Progress is helping to organise several events around the country.
London:
Guantanamo at the Royal Court Theatre
Sloane Square from 1 - 2 p.m. Artists performing will include Vanessa Redgrave, Janie Dee, Skye and Steve Bentley Klein and the InKlein Quartet, Margaret Drabble, Ian
Holm and Hari Kunzru.
Birmingham:
Street Protest in Centenary Square
6 to 7.30 p.m. in front of Birmingham Repertory Theatre
The protest will take the form of a stationary visual representation of
the 3 teenagers aged between 13 and 16 held at Guantanamo and a rolling
programme of readings from letters sent by West Midlands detainees to
their families, poetry, singing and music. Our primary aim is to raise
awareness, so we shall be handing out leaflets to passers by and
collecting signatures on the CAMPACC petition 'End Injustice at
Guantanamo, End Detention Without Trial'.
Sheffield:
Justice for Guantanamo Bay Detainees Vigil
To highlight the plight of the prisoners and their illegal detention.
A vigil will be held in Barker�s Pool (outside Cole Brothers) from 5pm to 6pm.
Followed by a meeting at the Quaker Meeting House, 10 St James St 6pm until 7pm.
