Public Meeting in Birmingham
“Innocent until proven guilty - End the Guantanamo experiment”
Posted: Wednesday 24th March 2004

The Guantanamo experiment and public reaction to it is being closely observed by governments around the world. The British government has already created its own version of Guantanamo at Belmarsh and Woodhill. Fundamental human rights are at stake, primarily the right to a fair trial and the principle of habeas corpus. If we do not insist upon these rights and protest against their abuse, they will be lost to us.

Speakers:

  • Azmat Begg - Father of detainee Moazzam Begg
  • Natalia Garcia - Solicitor representing internees at Woodhill
  • John Hemming - Leader of the Liberal Democrats on Birmingham City Council
  • Gareth Peirce - Mr Begg's solicitor
  • Greg Powell - Solicitor for the family of Rhuhel Ahmed
  • Corin Redgrave - Guantanamo Human Rights Commission
  • Wednesday March 31st 7.30 - 9.30 p.m.
Council Chamber, Council House, Victoria Square, Birmingham
