Haltemprice and Howden By-Election

Members and supporters of Peace and Progress plan to take part on Saturday 5th July in the debate about the defence of human rights in the by-election in Haltemprice and Howden caused by the resignation of David Davis.

If you would like to join us, we will meet at Hull Station at 1 p.m. and travel on to Cottingham, part of West Hull and within the constituency, to distribute leaflets, engage people in discussion and seek to raise the specific case of Mahmoud Abu Rideh, a Palestinian refugee who is on hunger strike against his control order (see below).
If you would like more information or to arrange to join us, please contact us on 07888 841586.

To read the leaflet we will be distributing in the constituency, please click here.

Mahmoud Abu Rideh:
on hunger strike to death or deportation

Mahmoud Abu Rideh is a Palestinian man under a control order in the UK. Having previously been interned for three and a half years without trial, he is in a critical condition following his refusal to take food, and now liquids, until the order is lifted or he is deported. Please follow the link below to read and sign a petition addressed to Home Secretary Jacqui Smith:

Read the entire text of the Declaration

'The Declaration was, and remains, a clear statement of principles: the equal rights of men and women, without distinction of any kind (such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion) to self-determination, equality before the law, social progress and better standards of living.

"We believe that these principles, and the laws based on these principles, are fundamental to the prevention of all forms of terror and to the preservation of a democratic law-governed world.'
